MLB Draft: Top 50 FYPD Rankings
James Anderson releases his super early FYPD rankings after Night 1 of the 2023 MLB Draft, in which new Rangers farmhand Wyatt Langford narrowly edges out Paul Skenes and Dylan Crews for the top spot.
2018 Fantasy Outlook
The son of former big leaguer Luis Gonzalez received an under-slot bonus at the No. 58 overall pick in 2017, and the early returns suggest the Giants got a bargain. He was one of two teenagers to finish in the top 10 in the AZL in wRC+ (143), league MVP Esteury Ruiz being the other. Gonzalez hit just one home run, but his 15 doubles tied for fourth in the league, and he projects to grow into more power. Still filling out a 6-foot-3 190-pound frame, the third baseman may eventually move to an outfield corner, possibly left field like his father. He was one of the older prep prospects in last year’s draft (he turns 20 in June), which can sometimes be a red flag, so it is important to not get too excited about what appears to be an excellent hit tool until we see him succeed in a full-season league. That said, his patience (8.2 percent walk rate) and contact skills (11.9 percent strikeout rate) suggest his production should translate against more advanced pitching.
