Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
In 2023, Smith reprised the utility role he held the previous season, settling in at third base, shortstop and the never-quite-settled left field spot at various times. The infield positions are locked in by Corey Seager and Josh Jung, while left field now belongs to Evan Carter. Designated hitter is open, but Smith's competent minor-league bat has yet to translate over 485 plate appearances in the show (.191 average, .592 OPS). The lefty batter didn't indicate much against any pitch type (.191 against fastballs, .176 against curve/breaking balls) or as a potential platoon mate (.623 OPS against right-handers). There isn't a path to regular at-bats for Smith, whose value lies in position versatility. Read Past Outlooks

Goes deep Tuesday
Smith went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and scored twice during Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Smith's second-inning single and sixth-inning solo shot give the 26-year-old infielder his third multi-hit game in his last five contests. He is 7-for-14 two homers, three RBI and three runs scored during that stretch and now boats an impressive .917 OPS on the season while filling in as Josh Jung's (wrist) replacement.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Chance for more playing time
Josh Jung suffered a fractured right wrist Monday, reports Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, which will likely lead to more playing time at third base for Smith.
ANALYSIS
Smith entered Monday's contest as a replacement at the hot corner but has just one plate appearance through Texas' first four games of the season. Smith played in 90 big-league contests last season and struggled to a .185/.304/.328 slash line, so Ezequiel Duran is likely in a better position to secure regular reps.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The H in Josh H. Smith stands for hitter as this young man can hit. He owns a .305/.421/.500 triple-slash line in a minor league career with a slugging percentage built more on gap extra base hits than homers along with a 41 of 53 track record on the basepaths. He struggled in his rookie season when Texas called him up with non-fastballs as he hit a collective .096 against breaking balls and offspeed pitches with a healthy dose of swing and miss. The baptism by fire last season did allow him to gain third base and outfield eligibility on draft day, but he does not have enough bat to be a fantasy regular at either position much less for the improving Rangers offense. Smith can be targeted in later rounds of deep AL-Only leagues as well as draft and hold formats in case something does open up for him as he still has good overall tools.
