Could face hitters in two weeks
Trivino (elbow) is doing well in his rehab from Tommy John surgery, according to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and the veteran reliever is likely about two weeks away from beginning live batting practice sessions, per MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Trivino is coming up on the one-year mark of his elbow surgery, which took place May 3, 2023. The right-hander threw bullpen sessions during spring training and has since continued to progress through his throwing program. Should he continue to move forward without any setbacks, Trivino could return to the Yankees bullpen around the All-Star break.

Possible trade candidate?
With the Athletics expected to trim payroll this offseason, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Trivino is one of several veteran players who could be traded this offseason.
ANALYSIS
Trivino is owed a fairly modest $2.9 million next year, but the reliever is 30 years old and could bring back a decent prospect haul, so Oakland may listen to offers. He saved 22 games this past season and posted a solid 3.18 ERA.

Trivino began the year as the A's closer, but was out of the role by mid-April thanks a bout with COVID-19 that cost him several weeks. The right-hander wasn't exactly performing well on the surface, but an elevated BABIP (.389) that was over .500 at one point inflated his ratios. Looking beyond his surface stats, Trivino posted a career-best strikeout rate (11.2 K/9) and walk percentage (9.6%) while inducing ground balls at a 53% clip. More strikeouts thanks to a new slider that Trivino threw 24% of the time as his second most-utilized pitch. The slider was responsible for 32 of his 67 strikeouts and carried a mere .109 BAA with an outstanding 47% whiff percentage. The 31-year-old reclaimed Oakland's closer job for about a month before he was traded to the Yankees, with whom his numbers were much improved (1.66 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). Trivino is likely to remain an important part of the bridge to the ninth inning in 2023.
