Gets final year
Phillips (Achilles) had his fifth-year option on his rookie contract exercised by the Dolphins on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Phillips expects to be ready by Week 1, and it was previously reported by Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com that Miami picking up his option was the plan, according to GM Chris Grier. The 2021 first-round selection was on pace to smash all his career-best totals before tearing his right Achilles in Week 12 and now will look to build off of that going into 2024 with two years now left on his contract.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Miami to pick up fifth-year option
General manager Chris Grier said Tuesday that the Dolphins will exercise Phillips' fifth-year option, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips will remain with the Dolphins through the 2025 season by having a fifth year tacked on to his four-year rookie deal. The 18th overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft has been trending in the wrong direction, as Phillips had 8.5 sacks as a rookie, seven in 2022 and just 6.5 in 2023. That 2023 total came in just eight games before Phillips tore his Achilles' tendon, but the injury hasn't deterred Miami from planning to keep him in the fold for an additional season.

2023
2021
Phillips has quickly proven why the Dolphins selected him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, as he's picked up an impressive 15.5 sacks across his first two seasons as a pro. He took a significant step forward in his sophomore campaign from a role perspective, as he increased his snap total from 594 to 796 while playing in all 17 games. This could be the year he surpasses 1,000 snaps as a true every-down player, which in turn should help his production across the board. Phillips is a prime breakout candidate.
